You could perhaps come in on a tourist visa temporarily and then try to find an employer here who would sponsor your visa. There are so many different jobs available under the priority visa programs (chefs, teachers, construction workers, etc). It took nine months and a country visit through a recruiter to get my work offer which included a visa.
