I've updated my beliefs on timber since I wrote the piece on the carbon trap. As alternatives become cleaner, like concrete and steel, we're better off leaving trees alone. Check out the article https://medium.com/@ronancray/trees-are-not-a-renewable-resource-6973edb9f616

As for the toilets, I wonder how often people try flushing two or three times before resorting to brushing. That's me. And even when you get the bits off the side, you have to flush them away, too. I bet I use more than twice as much water as a "lake".
