My wife and I are different races and my son, an actor, is mixed. He once lost a role as the son of the show's lead because he "does not look like him" ethnically. The lead is the same race as I am, implying that my own biological son is not believable in a fictional setting.
It's important for television to push the boundary of what society has normalized. To do that, it needs to expose everyone to a forced narrative until that narrative is accepted. It grates, I know, but exposure is the only cure.
Not long ago, within my parent's lifetime, interratial marriage was illegal in the US. My wife and I have never heard a disparaging word about our relationship. Let's not forget that progress.
