Much ado about nothing. A new industry is not responsible for the infrastructure and trade-offs necessary to support it. We have unlimited energy on this planet in tidal, wave, and geothermal and the push is already on to make all power from renewables. If anything, the increased demand from AI will hasten clean infrastructure to meet that industrial demand, a net win for the climate and the grid.
Models based on energy efficiency and carbon are always based on averages, which include fossil fuels, while PPAs and data farm locations are strategically targeted for readily available resources. It would be a poor commercial decision otherwise.
I'm not aware of anyone building AI server farms in Sudan, so invoking that country in a resource discussion is nonsensical.
