Men spend an embarrassing amount of time thinking about women, usually sexually, usually superficially, and always uncrontrollably. It takes a deliberate effort NOT to think about it (baseball and butterflies). When you spend that much time thinking about something, especially something you feel could be improved, you voice that opinion.
Men are getting the message: don't comment on women's appearance. It's good to remind them, with patience.
