I'm always puzzled by people's deep dislike of billionaires investing in space. If the public had been so interested, their taxes would have funded NASA, but instead the billionaires had to step in. As you said, "Why can't we have well funded schools?" We want billionaires to pay for that, too, because the taxpayer doesn't want to. We hate billionaires but want their money but won't spend that money on each other if we got it. It's weird.
