I was a Liberal before moving away from the US, but I didn't realize how radical they were until I viewed it from the outside. Now it's everyone hates men and everyone's a racist and cancel culture. I think that drove a lot of people to the Right for one simple reason: they wanted to belong to something without being a villian. ( To be fair, the Right is filled with villains which is why they are so welcoming. )
During Trump's first election, I asked a friend of mine, a really nice caring guy, why he voted Republican. He said, "I want to support the police." I thought, "How can anyone think Democrats don't support the police? That's a bedrock of society." Then came "Defind the Police." Ah. Dumb move.
Liberals need to take a step back and stop screaming, stop looking at everyone as an existential threat (as does the Right).
But, even worse, it seems like both sides are fighting about non-issues. Gendered bathrooms, immigration, perceived racism, gender roles, while real issues like climate change, global security power shifts, peak oil, scientific discoveries get shouted down and drowned out. It seems like both sides have no understanding of real policy or politics anymore, and don't want to.
I totally agreewith you. It's a problem for America.
