I moved to New Zealand four years ago in part for these very reasons. The last two years, I'm glad I did. I would note one other benefit to the Southern hemisphere - nuclear fallout. Should conflict break out due to resource scarcity among the Northern populations, fallout from nuclear actions will not cross the equator, thanks to the Coriolis Effect.
