I like your description of the behemoth, because that's what it feels like. It can't be stopped individually, and yet we're not there collectively. You just have to get out of the way.

I do find it helpful to look the the past for comfort, but for the opposite reason as you. I see the past as a brutish place where we worked awfully hard and died from the simplest things. That perspective helps me appreciate that no matter how bad things feel, they used to be a lot worse!
