I have written about this on Medium. Even children can spot it. My kid says, "Must be an American film" when he sees a perfectly diverse cast. Wherever you live, it would be abnormal to have five friends perfectly composed of one white, black, hispanic, asian, and gay. It is unnatural to hear the lone black character shout out "I'm black!" It is jarring to see two same-sex characters kiss with no chemistry. You feel bad for the actors.
They've replaced the 80's gratuitous sex with race and gender. New dog, old tricks. Because they see articles like this one, and the legion of responses, who would rather see plasticine in their colour than no colour at all.
Forgive the rest of us for expecting more.
