I could not agree with you more. I have a slightly higher degree of optimism, though. For example, I see a desert based solar smelter melting glass , geo-based manufacturing rather than national or economic based, transported by blimp to the whole world. This sounds inconceivable now, but as the need grows it becomes less fantastical. The point is we already have the technology to survive this without becoming a low-tech society (Solein instead of agriculture, wave energy rather than solar). We just won't use it until we absolutely have to. At which point, populations will have starved and species gone extinct. Sad that it has to end that way.
