How to Fix Stuff Like a Man

I say “like” a man, because with these five easy steps even women and children can do it. It just takes planning, the right tools, and a little alone time.

When I met my wife, she had a bigger toolbox than me. She’d lived alone for a year. She’d solved almost every DIY problem with genius level devices MacGyver’d from string and paperclips. She leapt on problems instantly with a quick fix.

I should have found this emasculating, but I realized she did not know how to complete tasks like a man. This is where I came in.

Men approach home repair the way women approach lovemaking. We have to be in the mood. If it’s been a long day at work, or the kids acted up again, or our favorite sport team exists — it is hard to get in the mood. On the surface it may look like we’re stalling. We’re not. We’re planning. Big difference. We’re going through the five stages of male motivation: wait, plan, purchase, curse, settle. I’ll share this with you, and you, too, can fix stuff “like a man.”

It’s best not to leap into home repair projects. Instead, contemplate everything that could go wrong. The more discouraged you are from starting, the more likely you’re waiting correctly. The waiting period usually lasts a minimum of six months. If you start earlier, things will go terribly wrong. If you start later…
