Ahahaha! I was a teenager when I found The Valley of Horses and Clan of the Cave Bear on my parents' bookshelf. It was a transformational part of my childhood. First, I wondered why my prudish parents had this on the shelf (many questions), and then I wondered how often I could sneak it into my room without anyone finding out. I loved that book, and the phrase "Jondalar's throbbing manhood" has never left my repertoire.

I love your take on it. Maybe it should be required reading.
